3. Afghanistan‘s President Ghani offered recognition as a legitimate group to Taliban in peace talks.

4. Islamic extremists attacked the French Embassy in Burkina Faso, killing 8 people and wounding 80 others.

5. Germany‘s Chancellor Angela Merkel is set for a 4th term as Social Democrats voted overwhelmingly to remain in the coalition.

6. A massive earthquake in Papua New Guinea killed at least 31 people. Authorities declared a state of emergency as 150,000 people are in need of urgent aid.
